Our friends at Jopen are exceptional Dutch brewers who produce a wide array of limited production beers spanning a wide array of styles, but very little ever makes its way across the Atlantic. After sampling over a dozen of their most intriguing beers, we narrowed our selection down to our four absolute favorites, which we imported in 2022 as an exclusive special offer for our Rare Beer Club members.

Meesterstuk 2017

[Imperial Porter w/ Ginger, Celtic Sea Salt & Cocoa. 10% ABV.] Each year Jopen makes a Masterpiece ("Meesterstuk"), and this 2017 version lives up to its name. Full-bodied with rich chocolate, roasted malt and coffee notes at the core balanced by spicy ginger and sea salt.

Sin & Remorse (Brandy Barrel Aged)

[Brandy-Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout. 11% ABV.] The base beer is a collab with Brouwerij de Molen that we featured in the club a couple years ago. This special version was aged in brandy barrels for 1,500 days (not a typo!), and delivers chewy dark specialty malts with rich milk chocolate and roast, plus raisin/dark-fruit character alongside the oaky, warming brandy impact.

Sin & Remorse (Scotch Barrel Aged)

[Bowmore-Whisky-Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout. 11% ABV.] This second special version of Sin & Remorse was aged for 530 days inside of Bowmore Scotch Whisky barrels, with the result emphasizing deep, dark chocolate and a light smoky, peaty character from the Islay Scotch barrels.

[Rye Wine Aged in Caol Ila Scotch and Heaven Hill & Buffalo Trace Bourbon Barrels. 12.5% ABV.] Full-bodied, with vibrant peatiness, decadent dark caramelization, lightly spicy rye, robust dried fruits, and toasty oak tannins.
