We’re extremely excited to have been able to work with Shmaltz on Mazel Hops!, a beer created especially to celebrate our club’s 20th Anniversary, and available exclusively to our beer club members. Brewed as an imperial IPA, and dry-hopped, the aroma is intoxicating, as luscious, fruity hops practically jump out of the glass. The several hop varietals chosen for this beer complement each other well, delivering notes of grapefruit, orange, lime, tropical fruit...
- Style: English-style Old Ale (with toasted oak and cacao)
- ABV: 10.0%
- Serving Temperature: 50–57° F
- Suggested Glassware: Snifter, Tulip, or Pinot Glass
- Country: Belgium
Long of Tooth, the latest entry we get to show off from De Proef’s extensive Brewmaster’s Collaboration series, is an English-style old ale that’s spent some time aging on toasted oak and cacao. It seems like somewhat of a departure from the norm for both breweries. But its detailed maltiness seems to point to offerings like Surly Darkness, and the fermentation and precise packaging reflect what we’ve come to expect from these De Proef collaborations.
- Style: American Pale Lager
- ABV: 4.6%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 38
- Serving Temperature: 42-48º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass, Pint Glass
- Hops: 2-Row, Carapils, Wheat
- Malts: Chinook, Citra, Summit
- Country: United States
Pouring a golden straw color with a light haze and a cap of crisp white foam, Fresh Cut represents Peak Organic’s foray into the American trend of taking lager styles and amping up the bitterness a bit while using American hops for a distinctly different character. There’s also another trend currently towards more “sessionable”, lower-ABV IPAs, and Fresh Cut shares some similarities with such beers, albeit as a lager and with only 38 IBUs. On the...
- Style: American Amber Ale
- ABV: 4.9%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 37
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Palisade, Chinook
- Malts: Munich, 2-Row, Caramel 60, Chocolate
- Country: United States
Peak Organic’s Amber Ale presents a good looking reddish amber hue with plenty of fluffy off-white foam that sticks around and coats your glass. It’s nicely malty in the aroma department, with deeply caramelized notes and a bready, moderately toasty character, all overlaid by a touch of floral, lightly fruity and herbal hops. On the palate, the malts deliver a strong core of toasty caramel, shot through with a certain fruitiness. But this beer isn’t just malty; the...
- Style: European Pale Lager
- ABV: 5.0%
- Serving Temperature: 40-45° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass
- Hops: Strisselspalt
- Country: France
Kronenbourg’s flagship brew presents well in the glass: brilliant clarity with an attractive brassy-copper-golden color and a generous cap of white foam. This beer serves as a showcase for the Strisselspalt hop, a local Alsatian varietal that’s been used in Kronenbourg’s beers since 1885, and is coveted by brewers around the world for its classic, well-balanced aromatic character. In fact, it delivers a little bit of everything on the nose, offering up a very...
- Style: American Pale Lager
- ABV: 5.3%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 25
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Cascade, Czech Saaz, Crystal, Summit, Citra
- Malts: 2-Row, Carapils, Vienna, Wheat, Crystal Rye, Oats
- Country: United States
David’s Slingshot pours a bright golden color with lots of tight-bubbled foam. On the nose, expect a strong herbal character with a distinctly minty edge, a bit of citrus zest, and a musky, resinous note. On the palate, the malts provide a satisfying core without being heavy, including biscuity, crackery notes with some subtle caramel and hints of wheat and spicy rye. Hops deliver more than a little citric bite, with a deeply herbal character. Look for the bitterness to...
- Style: Imperial IPA aged on Spanish cedar and spruce
- ABV: 9.5%
- Serving Temperature: 50–59° F
- Suggested Glassware: Snifter, tulip, or smaller nonic
- Hops: CTZ, Pacific Jade, Chinook, Citra, Mosaic, HBC 366 (Equinox), ADHA 527, ADHA 529
- Country: United States
We're thankful to Wayne Wambles and our friends at Cigar City for brewing this new Rare Beer Club-exclusive Imperial IPA, which was created to celebrate our company's 20th Anniversary. El Monstruo Lúpulo is a hefty, highly focused beer has been aged on both Spanish cedar and spruce, the result going way beyond the imperialized version of the cedar-aged Jai Alai we first imagined, but still revolving expertly around the careful marriage of wood and hops...
- Style: Witbier
- ABV: 5.0%
- Serving Temperature: 42-48° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass, Pint Glass, Flute
- Country: France
A blue bottle, huh? That’s a new one. Leave it to the French to go all “avant-garde” with their beer bottles. In any case, 1664 Blanc, as you might suspect, is brewed in the style of a Belgian witbier, or white beer. It certainly looks the part in the glass, with a hazy straw color and a crisp head of white foam. We quite enjoyed the aroma on this one, which comes across softly fruity, with a distinct peachy stone fruit note that is very unique even for a white beer...
