- Country: United States
Brown ales are one of those styles that often gets a bit overlooked among the flashier styles, and we have to admit we're guilty of this ourselves. But, truth be told, many of the brown ales we sample are just not that exciting, and frankly are rather insipid. Oaktown is definitely not one of those beers. This oaked brown ale presents a very deep brown color with reddish flashes, and offers quite the inviting aroma. Richly malty notes are...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 7.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 70
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass, Mug, Tulip
- Hops: Eureka, Nugget, Cascade, Chinook, Centennial, Hallertau Melon
- Malts: 2-Row, Pale Crystal, Wheat
- Country: United States
This bold, in-your-face IPA pours an attractive bright orange-copper topped by a cap of sticky foam which laces as it recedes. We were immediately taken in by the super-aromatic nose; there's a cavalcade of inviting hop notes thanks to Adirondack's generous use of a half-dozen different hop varieties. Look for juicy grapefruit citrus notes, tropical fruit, melon, pine, and fragrant floral and spice tones. Thankfully, the story repeats on the...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Kölsch
- ABV: 4.8%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 15
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Stange or Flute
- Hops: Hallertau, Crystal
- Malts: 2-Row, Wheat
- Country: United States
Kölsch is a classic German style hailing from Köln (Cologne) that's made with top-fermenting ale yeast, but then cold conditioned like lager. It's one of those styles that can be tricky to brew given that there are no big fireworks or super brash notes behind which the brewer can hide mistakes. We're big fans of the style when done right; it's just a deliciously simple, balanced, dry beer that quenches thirst and beckons sip after sip.
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American Amber Ale
- ABV: 5.2%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 30
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Perle, Hallertau, Cascade
- Malts: 2-Row, Munich, Cara Vienna, Red Wheat, Vienna, Pale Crystal
- Country: United States
This amber ale pours – as one would expect – a rich-looking medium amber color, well-filtered, and topped by a voluminous head of light beige foam. On the nose, we picked up lots of caramel notes, accompanied by fruity tones of apple and stone fruit, plus some earthy and spicy noble hops with a floral hint. In the flavor, this brew really hit the spot. Look for a nice toasty & bready impression at the core of this satisfying amber ale...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 6.4%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 65
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass, Mug, Wide Flute
- Hops: Columbus, Centennial, Simcoe
- Malts: 2-Row
- Country: United States
Presenting a bright pale golden color with great clarity and plenty of sticky foam, The City looks great in the glass, and smells even better. Very pungent and lively aromas jump out of the glass, including resinous pine, lemon, grapefruit zest, big spicy notes, and a potpourri-like floral character. Built with 100% 2-row pale malt, there's little in the way of caramel or toast on the palate; instead, The City is crafted in a "NorCal" style...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Session IPA
- ABV: 4.7%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 35
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Columbus, Summit, Lemondrop, Hallertau Melon, Mandarina Bavaria
- Malts: 2-Row, Red Wheat, Munich, Cara Pils, Flaked Oats
- Country: United States
Adirondack's entry into the increasingly popular Session IPA category pours a pretty light copper color with good clarity and a sizable head of foam which retains well before dropping to a persistent ring. On the nose, we picked up a delicious array of bright hop aromas; look for a nice balance between fruity citrus notes, including tangerine and lemon tones, and herbal, piney, and lightly minty aromas. The story continues on the palate...
- Bottle Size: 330-ml
- Style: German-style Pilsner
- ABV: 5.2%
- Serving Temperature: 40-45° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass, Flute
- Country: Belgium
While Brouwerij De Brabandere may be known worldwide as an excellent brewer of Belgian ale styles, like those in their Petrus line, they also happen to be very skilled at brewing pilsner, with their Super Pils having won numerous taste tests and even laboratory analyses of several dozen pilsners sold in Belgium. Super Pils pours a bright, crystal clear, sunny golden color capped by a very robust head that laces nicely as it recedes and forms...
- Bottle Size: 330-ml
- Style: Dunkel Lager
- ABV: 4.5%
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass, Flute
- Hops: Saaz
- Country: Czech Republic
This World Beer Championships Gold Medal winner pours a deep chestnut reddish-brown color topped by a head of brown foam. Dark lagers are usually malt-oriented brews, and Praga's version is no exception. On the nose, look for notes of fresh brown bread, toasted bread crust, caramel, hints of toffee and chocolate, and a subtle undercurrent of red fruit. Rich toasty and caramel notes hit upfront in the flavor department, along with plenty of...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Petrus Tripel w/ Amarillo & Cascade hops (85%) blended w/ Foederbeer aged 24 months in oak foeders (15%)
- ABV: 8%
- Serving Temperature: 42–47° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Chalice, Goblet or Chardonnay Glass
- Country: Belgium
This first release in Brouwerij De Brabandere’s Brewmaster’s Selection series was crafted by the brewery’s most experienced Master Brewer: Chris Van Acker, who’s spent more than 30 years of his career honing his skills there. This beer is a one-time offering that’s never before been sold in the U.S. There’s some very limited U.S. distribution slotted for around February 2018, but our Rare Beer Club members will be getting this beer at least a...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Blended Bourbon-Barrel-Fermented Imperial Stout
- ABV: 11%
- Serving Temperature: 50–57° F
- Suggested Glassware: Snifter, Tulip, Chalice or Pinot Glass
- Country: United States
Having long been appreciators of the work of Tomme Arthur and Co., we really wanted to procure something a little more special from The Lost Abbey—something that they’d never released before. So... as one of our two featured beers this month, we’re pretty psyched to be able to offer our Rare Beer Club members a new, exclusive blend, combining the brewery’s delicious Serpent’s Stout imperial stout with a bigger, bourbon-barrel-aged version of...
