- Country: United States
Raygun presents a bright golden hue with a touch of yeast haze in suspension, capped by a sticky head of foam that laces the glass nicely as it recedes to a collar. The aroma on this "Galaxy hopped" IPA is unsurprisingly dominated by those Australian hops, with prominent tropical fruit notes akin to mango and passion fruit, along with some stone fruit impressions and a touch of grassiness. It's certainly an inviting aroma...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American Amber Ale
- ABV: 6.8%

- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip or Pint Glass
- Hops: Nugget, Cascade
- Malts: Pale, Light Crystal
- Country: United States
Pouring a gorgeous reddish color with a fluffy cap of light beige foam, Ambergeddon drew us in with both its looks and its inviting aroma. Amber ale is a broad category and we never know exactly what kind of personality we're going to get when we pop one open. Most tend toward malt dominance, but the aroma here proves that plenty of hops have come to this party. Look for bright citric and soft floral notes overlaying...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Dunkel Lager
- ABV: 5.3%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 22
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass, Flute, Mug
- Hops: German Hallertauer Mittelfrüh, German Perle
- Malts: Munich, Euro Pilsner
- Country: United States
Backpocket's Slingshot pours a deep, rich, reddish-brown with crystal clarity when held to the light, and a cap of light beige foam. From our first go at the aroma we could tell this was a true-to-style dunkel lager—a style hailing from Munich, Bavaria. Look for prominent malty notes of fresh bread and toast, touches of caramel, a dollop of spicy, herbal hops, and a hint of dried fruit that we often pick up in this style of beer, and others...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: German Pilsner
- ABV: 5.2%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 35
- Serving Temperature: 40-45° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass
- Hops: Hallertauer Mittelfrüh
- Malts: Weyermann Pilsner
- Country: United States
This German-style pilsner from Ale Asylum debuted in March of 2017, and due to popular demand became a year-round core offering in February of this year. And it's easy to see why. Pouring a bright golden color and capped by crisp, white foam, this pilsner presents an inviting aroma of earthy, lightly floral hops, with a touch of spice. On the palate, look for a clean, crackery pils malt core supporting a really nice noble hop profile that's...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Foreign Extra/Export Stout
- ABV: 6.3%
- Serving Temperature: 50-55° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Country: Australia
Coopers Best Extra Stout is a true-to-style beer that offers an aromatic nose; look for bold notes of espresso, black licorice and black currants with a faint yeasty mustiness. Expect the coffee-like aromas to become even more pronounced in the flavor profile, especially as it warms, with high levels of roastiness and a touch of vanilla and licorice. The hop presence works with the roasted character to enhance the overall bitterness...
- Bottle Size: 330-ml
- Style: German Pilsner
- ABV: 4.8%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 31
- Serving Temperature: 40-45° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass, Flute
- Hops: Hallertau, Tettnang
- Country: Germany
Based on an original recipe for one of Germany's earliest pilsners crafted by Josef Munz, Fürstenberg's brewmaster at the time, Black Forest Pils presents beautifully in the glass with a bright golden hue and a voluminous, lasting head of white foam. The next thing we noticed is what this pils does best: expressive hops. There's a very vivid and inviting noble hop aroma here that's the hallmark of fresh and authentic German pilsners. Look for...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Double IPA
- ABV: 8.8%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 76
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip or Pint Glass
- Hops: Skyrocket
- Malts: 2-Row
- Country: United States
This Double IPA from Ale Asylum was first conceived as an experimental pilot batch (#013, to be exact) offered to visitors to their taproom. It was such a hit that it has been elevated to full-fledged seasonal release. It's also worth noting that its a single-hop brew, crafted with a hop called Skyrocket, grown locally by Wisconsin's Gorst Valley Hops and available exclusively to Ale Asylum. Skyrocket is, essentially, a clone of Chinook, but...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 6.2%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 85
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Citra, Ekuanot, Southern Cross
- Malts: Pale, Dextrin
- Country: United States
Pouring a golden copper color with a big cap of fluffy foam that lasts and lasts, High Coup issued forth bold hoppy aromas as soon as we popped the cap. We picked up notes of tropical fruits, fresh-cut melon, touches of pine, and hints of citrus. On the palate, this brew comes across extremely resinous, a sensation amplified by the huge 85 IBU of hop bitterness. Look for a mix of sharp citrus zest, herbal pine-like and even cannabinoid notes...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Oak-Barrel-Aged Sour Blonde Ale dry-hopped w/ Huell Melon hops
- ABV: 6.6%
- Serving Temperature: 45–52° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Teku, or Pinot Glass
- Country: United States
We’ve really enjoyed the beers we’ve been able to try from the folks at O’so Brewing, but we think we’ve found just the right one for our Rare Beer Club members this month. The Huell Melon dry-hopping offers up some generous notes of strawberry and melon here (along with some herbal grassiness) and the Project LO base beer is a vibrantly tart sour blonde ale from the get-go. With those powers combined...

- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Mixed-Culture Wild Ale w/ Persimmons and Apricots
- ABV: 9%
- Serving Temperature: 45–52° F

Two exclusives this month! Like this month’s dry-hopped version of O’so Brewing’s Project LO, this fruited, mixed-culture ale from Strange Roots is exclusively available through The Rare Beer Club, with a modest amount being allocated for the brewery’s tasting room in Western Pennsylvania. We’ve been following the under-the-radar work of Draai Laag (now: Strange Roots) for years, as Dennis Hock and company have been putting out exceptional...
