Foothills' People's Porter presents a deep brown hue with reddish flashes and a cap of medium brown foam. On the nose, chocolate and caramel malts are apparent, along with hints of coffee, a touch of woodiness, and some herbal, grassy notes. Look for the theme to continue on the palate, although with more deeply toasted and roasted notes. Bitter chocolate, dark roasted coffee, scorched caramel, and a bit of wood smoke are noticeable too, along...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz

- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 19
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Nugget, Willamette
- Malts: Maris Otter, Caramel, Wheat (and Roasted Pecans)
- Country: United States
The brewery says this is the first beer made with whole roasted pecans. Other brewers have used pecans, but this is the only beer to use them in the grain bill, meaning the pecans get partially fermented in the brewing process and contribute to the core flavors of the beer rather than being an afterthought for adding aroma. Upfront, it smells fairly sweet and nutty, with a hint of plum, gingerbread dough, and a smidge of citrusy hops. We found...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American Amber Ale

Pouring a rich-looking deep amber-red color with a head of khaki foam, Malt Shaker looks quite inviting in the glass. In the aroma department, look for a fruity, lightly citric note with a hint of a berry-like overtone, supported by a base of caramel and light bread. That fruity quality comes through prominently on the palate, too, along with a very smooth impression of caramel at the center. Look for some toasty and nutty notes to abound here...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American Blonde Ale
- ABV: 4.2%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 9
- Serving Temperature: 35-40° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Nugget, Willamette
- Malts: 2-Row Pale, Corn Grits
- Country: United States
KMG stands for Kiln Mississippi Gold, which we suppose renders the "Gold" on the label superfluous, but underscores that this is brewed as a Golden/Blonde Ale. With KMG, Lazy Magnolia set out to build a light, crisp, refreshing beer that could be enjoyed ice cold. Pouring a bright golden-straw color with good clarity and a cap of vibrant foam, this brew offers up aromas of fresh bread and hay, with some herbal, grassy notes, light spice, earth...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Black IPA / American Black Ale
- ABV: 6.3%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 77
- Serving Temperature: 48-55° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip or Pint Glass
- Hops: Apollo, Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe
- Malts: Pilsner, Caramel 20 & 60, Midnight Wheat
- Country: United States
Perhaps because "Black India Pale Ale" is, admittedly, a contradiction in terms, the style is also known by several other names including American Black Ale, Cascadian Dark Ale, India Dark Ale, etc. We still gravitate towards Black IPA because, well... that's just what we've always called it. The folks at Foothills apparently feel the same way. On the pour, this brew presents a deep, dark brown color with a robust head of light brown foam. On...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 7.4%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 82
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip or Pint Glass
- Hops: Apollo, Citra, Chinook, Pacific Jade
- Malts: Pilsner, Caramel 60, Acidulated
- Country: United States
Pouring a bright golden color with good clarity and a voluminous head of dense foam that leaves plenty of lace as it drops, this Gold Medal winner at the 2017 North Carolina Brewers' Cup looks inviting as it rests in the glass, offering aromatic fireworks as we take a sniff. Look for an orange-grapefruit-lemon citrus character along with tropical notes akin to pineapple and passion fruit. We picked up some soft floral overtones, too, along with...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Session IPA
- ABV: 5.5%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 60
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Citra
- Malts: 2-Row Pale, Wheat, Oats, Caramel 10L
- Country: United States
Lazy Magnolia’s take on a session IPA starts off really well in the glass, presenting an inviting copper-amber hue and boasting lots of sticky, long-lasting foam. Hops dominate the nose, unsurprisingly, with some juicy citrus zing, floral notes, and a touch of herbal spice. We like that there’s definitely a bit of caramel malt underpinning it all. On the palate, this brew is not shy, delivering a punch of 60 IBUs. The bold dose of Citra hops offers hints of floral and tropical notes, and quite a big citrus jolt which lingers in the finish with an impression of pith and zest. Some caramelized and lightly toasty malt adds structure to this medium-bodied IPA. Try pairing with sweet orange chicken to let the beer’s bitterness provide a counter-punch, or try spicy shrimp tacos topped with mango salsa. Cheers!
- Style: English Pale Ale
- ABV: 5.0%
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass, Wide Flute
- Country: England
This iconic British ale is quite stunning in the glass, presenting a rich reddish-amber hue capped with a moderately-sized off-white head which drops some thin lace as you drink. On the nose, look for light notes of caramel and toffee along with a definite fruity overtone, likely both from esters produced during fermentation as well as Morland’s choice of hops, purported to be a blend of Challenger, Pilgrim, First Gold, and Goldings. On the...
- Style: Czech Pilsner
- ABV: 4.4.%
- Serving Temperature: 40-45° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass
- Country: Czech Republic
Despite being a technologically advanced, modern facility, the brewery uses traditional lager brewing techniques to make their flagship beers, including open fermentation vats, cool conditioning in their lagering cellars and, of course, 100% barley malt. The result is a successful Czech pilsner. Rebel is a looker in the glass, offering a clear golden color topped with a robust and long-lasting head of fine white foam. On the nose, expect a...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: IPA with Mango
- ABV: 8%
- Serving Temperature: 43–50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Nonic, or IPA Glass
- Country: United States
Zipline Brewing’s tasty wares see a very modest distribution outside of their retail locations, with distribution to parts of just six midwest states. Zipline’s MAAANGO! IPA will likely be the first taste from this brewery for many of our Rare Beer Club members, and we love how this beer builds on the brilliant, dank and tangy structure of the brewery’s core DAAANG! IPA. This is very much in the hugely popular, hazy, New-England style of IPAs...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Blend of un-aged Wee Heavy and Scotch-barrel-aged Wee Heavy
- ABV: 11.5%
- Serving Temperature: 50–57° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Teku, Snifter, or Pinot Glass
- Country: United States
We’re super pumped to be able to offer our Rare Beer Club members an exclusive from The Lost Abbey, an incredible blend of barrel-aged and un-aged Wee Heavy beers that each offer very different contributions to the final blend. This beer has never been released before, and it will only be available through the brewery’s tasting room and to Rare Beer Club members. Lost Abbey’s A Creator’s Calling pours a dense, brown-sugar and cola color...
