This tasty porter from O'so presents an opaque dark brown color in the glass, capped with a dense tan head that retains and laces very well. On the nose, we picked up plenty of inviting roasty notes, including coffee and dark chocolate, along with caramel and toffee, a touch of smoke, and hints of underlying dark fruit. The theme continues in the flavor where roasted and caramel malts come to the fore, with touches of dried fruits akin to figs...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA (West Coast style)
- ABV: 6.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 60
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Columbus, Cascade, Mosaic, Simcoe, Amarillo
- Malts: Pilsner, Pale, Honey
- Country: United States
Pouring a bright golden-copper hue with good clarity and a robust head which drops some lace as it recedes, Route 101 is a handsome brew in the glass. We really enjoyed the complex hop profile on this West Coast style IPA, which uses five different hop varieties; look for notes of citrus zest and juice, floral overtones with some herbal spice impressions, and light wisps of berry and melon. In the flavor department, there’s a core of pale malts upon which a very...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American Amber/Red Ale
- ABV: 5.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 25
- Serving Temperature: 42-47° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Magnum, East Kent Golding
- Malts: Vienna, Munich, Caramel
- Country: United States
Pouring an attractive reddish-amber hues with crystal clarity and a robust head with good retention, Rusty Red offers up plenty of malt-centric aromas. Look for notes of caramel, toasted bread crust, a hint of brown bread, and a mild nutty and roasty impression. We picked up a light undertone of red fruit along with a floral hop note and a hint of candied orange. On the palate, this red ale continues with the malty theme, developing plenty of caramelized malt...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Oatmeal Stout
- ABV: 7.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 60
- Serving Temperature: 50-55° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Nugget, Delta
- Malts: Pale, Chocolate, Black, Crystal, Roasted Barley, Oats
- Country: United States
Ipswich’s Oatmeal Stout pours an opaque black, capped by a lasting head of rich brown foam. Be sure to let this brew shed some of its fridge coldness before pouring, in order to let the aromas and flavors express themselves fully. On the nose, we picked up a prominent roast character reminiscent of scorched bread crust & caramel, along with coffee grounds and dark chocolate. Look for some spicy and lightly earthy hop overtones, too. Big roasted malt notes...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American Pale Ale
- ABV: 5.5%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 50
- Serving Temperature: 43-48° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Cascade, Chinook, Centennial, Summit
- Malts: 2-Row Pale, Munich, Caramel 60
- Country: United States
This pale ale presents a medium copper-amber color topped by a fluffy and very persistent head of foam that laces nicely as it recedes. On the nose, look for a fairly complex array of aromas; we picked up plenty of herbal and piney notes melded to floral tones and a prominent variety of fruity notes including candied citrus, apricot-like stone fruits, and even some berry hints. Flavorwise, there's a fairly robust malt core offering a satisfying caramel background...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 7.09%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 99
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip or Pint Glass
- Hops: Zeus
- Malts: 2-Row Pale
- Country: United States
In the beer world, the term "S.M.A.S.H." refers to Single Malt And Single Hop brews. With Hop Whoopin', O'so turned the phrase on its head a bit, as they describe this IPA as "Single Malt and All Sorts of Hops." We have to say, it's pretty accurate. Hop Whoopin' pours a bright golden color with a white cap of sticky foam. Our bottles had a decent amount of yeast sediment, which is normal with bottle-conditioned beers; feel free to rouse it up, or, pour carefully to leave...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Double / Imperial IPA
- ABV: 8.3%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 64
- Serving Temperature: 47-53° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip or Snifter
- Hops: Columbus, Amarillo, Ahtanum, Mandarina
- Malts: Maris Otter, Pilsner, Honey
- Country: United States
This limited-production Double IPA does not see widespread distribution; in fact, it was first brewed as a pub-exclusive for the opening of Ipswich’s Brewer’s Table restaurant. Pouring a bright golden color, Route 1A offers up big, vivid citrus notes akin to tangerine, orange, and even a bit of pineapple – very characteristic of Mandarina hops, a relatively new German variety – as well as some floral character. On the palate, this is a bold...
- Bottle Size: 500-ml
- Style: Schwarzbier
- ABV: 5.0%
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Flute, Pilsner Glass, Mug or Stein
- Country: Germany
Wolters Black is Wolters' interpretation of a “schwarzbier” (literally “blackbeer”). The style tends to trip up those who haven’t experienced it before; the uninitiated often think because it’s dark in color that it must be heavy or chewy with a lot of bitter roastiness. But the reality is that schwarzbiers are very easy drinking lagers that embrace the maltier side of things without sacrificing refreshment. Pouring a super dark brown with just a hint...
- Bottle Size: 500-ml
- Style: German Pilsner
- ABV: 4.9%
- Serving Temperature: 40-45° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass or Flute
- Country: Germany
Wolters Pilsener was awarded a Gold Medal in 2018 from Germany’s extremely stringent DLG Test which, over the course of three months, subjects beers not only to expert blind tasting, but also an array of scientific tests. On the pour, Wolters Pilsener presents a crystal clear, bright straw color with a fluffy bright white head. On the nose expect pale, crackery malt aromas, notes of hay, and a grassy and lightly floral noble hop character...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Saison w/ Brettanomyces and 100% Nelson Sauvin hops, fermented in oak foudres
- ABV: 6.5%
- Serving Temperature: 45–52° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Chalice, Teku, or Chardonnay Glass
- Hops: Nelson Sauvin
- Country: United States
Anchorage’s Nelson Sauvin, like most of Anchorage’s releases, sees only a limited amount of distribution, with only about 200 cases sold throughout the U.S. in 2018. We’ll be taking the majority of the 2019 release for our Rare Beer Club members, without around 50 to 75 cases to be sold outside of the club. This is a particularly dialed-in release out of Anchorage, and a perfect opportunity to dig into a beer 100% hopped with the delicious Nelson Sauvin hop...
