- Country: United States
This pale ale from Flying Fish, which started it all as the brewery's initial offering, presents a golden-amber color with a head of off-white foam. We poured half our bottle, then roused the yeast sediment and poured the rest, giving the brew a hazy look. On the nose we picked up lots of floral and citrus zest character, along with an herbal flourish of cut grass, and some stone fruit and melon notes. On the palate, look for the malts to come...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Milk Stout
- ABV: 4.9%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 38
- Serving Temperature: 50-55º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass, Mug, or Tulip
- Hops: Columbus
- Malts: Pale, Chocolate, Lactose
- Country: United States
Mackeson pours a deep, dark brown color – virtually opaque – topped with a handsome crop of brown foam. In the aroma, look for prominent roasty notes akin to fresh ground coffee and charred toast, with hints of pure cacao, and there's an underlying creamy impression that hints at what's to come. In the flavor, look for bold, roasty notes to take center stage amidst a satiny lactose sweetness that balances the darker malt notes without the...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Dubbel
- ABV: 7.2%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 9.1
- Serving Temperature: 48-53° F
- Suggested Glassware: Chalice, Goblet, Tulip, Snifter
- Hops: Styrian Golding
- Malts: Superior Pilsen, Munich, Special B, Chocolate, Honey Malt, Wheat Malt, Demerera Sugar
- Country: United States
Brewed in the style of a Belgian Dubbel, this beer pours the expected deep brownish color, albeit with a noticeable and attractive reddish hue. On the nose look for notes of brown sugar and caramel, light touches of chocolate, and a significant spicy character contributed by both the famously spicy Belgian yeast as well as the dose of hops. These characteristics come through on the palate too, along with plenty of raisin-like fruitiness...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Imperial/Double IPA
- ABV: 10%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 85
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip or Snifter
- Hops: Cascade, Chinook, Columbus, Centennial
- Malts: Pale Malt, Cherrywood Smoked Malt
- Country: United States
This 2010 & 2011 Bronze medal winner in the fiercely competitive Double IPA category of the U.S. Open Beer Championships presents an attractive copper-amber hue in the glass as its robust cap of tight, off-white foam slowly recedes to a lasting collar while lacing nicely. Big, fruity citrus notes emerge in the aroma, offering some orange, tangerine, and grapefruit, joined by soft, floral overtones and a noticeable undercurrent of caramel. On...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 6.3%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 27
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass, Pint Glass, or Mug
- Hops: Warrior, Centennial, Citra, Simcoe, Cascade
- Malts: Superior Pilsen, Vienna, Honey Malt
- Country: United States
Flying Fish’s Outside IPA pours an attractive orangey golden-copper color capped by a fluffy head of foam that laces nicely as it recedes. On the nose, we picked up plenty of grapefruit-like citrus notes along with some tropical fruit, prominent pine, and soft floral tones. The story continues in much the same way on the palate where we get lots of bright citrus zest, light pine and floral character, and a bit of herbal spice. The hop bitterness...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Scotch Ale/Wee Heavy
- ABV: 8.50%
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Snifter, Tulip, Oversized Wine Glass
- Hops: East Kent Golding
- Malts: Maris Otter, Crystal, Chocolate, Wheat Malt
- Country: Scotland
The “Wee Heavy” or “Scotch Ale” style is a robust, in-your-face beer, so it should come as no surprise Orkney chose to name their version after a fearsome Viking figure from Orcadian history, Thorfinn Turf-Einarsson Hauskaluif. But, Skull Splitter is not a one-trick pony; it offers many, many layers of complexity and subtlety, much like a fine spirit. On the pour, expect a somewhat murky reddish brown color with a head that reduces to a persist...
- Bottle Size: 330-ml
- Style: Czech Pilsner
- ABV: 4.7%
- Serving Temperature: 42-47° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass, Flute
- Country: Czech Republic
We’re always excited when we receive a pilsner to sample from the style’s ancestral home; the Czechs just seem to nail these brews more often than not. Praga is no exception, and has hardware to back it up including a Gold Medal from the World Beer Championships. Presenting a deep golden color with crystal clarity and an eager, billowy cap of foam, this pils makes a good first impression. On the nose, look for bold, classic Czech Saaz noble...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Barrel-Aged Farmhouse Imperial Stout w/ Sunflower Seeds
- ABV: 10.5%
- Serving Temperature: 50–58° F
- Suggested Glassware: Snifter, Tulip, Chalice, or Pinot Glass
- Country: United States

- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Strong Saison w/ Dandelions
- ABV: 8%
- Serving Temperature: 45–52° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Teku, Goblet, or Chardonnay Glass
- Country: Belgium
Dany almost never gives up the ingredients list to Fantôme releases, but at least we can say for sure that the brewery’s Pissenlit features dandelions prominently. Each spring, Dany and his team head out into the fields surrounding the brewery to pick fresh bushels of dandelions for this year’s batch (pissenlit is French for ‘dandelion’). To prep the flowers for brewing, the yellow tops are removed and dried in the sun, before being soaked...
We’re so proud of our featured beers, that we list them going all the way back to 1995
No other Beer Club can claim the same. Check out what we’ve been up for the last 20+ years. We know you’ll be impressed enough to see what’s coming next month.
