Originally brewed in partnership with Minneapolis' annual Holidazzle festival, Proper Porter was such a hit it's become a year-round offering. Pouring a deep, deep garnet red, capped by a khaki head, it's an attractive brew in the glass. On the nose, we picked up notes of bread crust and brown bread, prominent toffee with hints of chocolate, and just a touch of earthy hops. On the palate, this brew's flavor profile truly shines and expands.

This bold, in-your-face IPA pours an attractive bright orange-copper topped by a cap of sticky foam which laces as it recedes. We were immediately taken in by the super-aromatic nose; there's a cavalcade of inviting hop notes thanks to Adirondack's generous use of a half-dozen different hop varieties. Look for juicy grapefruit citrus notes, tropical fruit, melon, pine, and fragrant floral and spice tones. Thankfully, the story repeats on the...

This blonde ale pours a bright golden color with good clarity and a cap of pale foam that offers up a pleasant, inviting aroma. Look for a crackery malt undertone overlaid by bright noble hop character including herbal, grassy notes with a dash of spice, a touch of hay, floral tones, and a hint of citrus. On the palate, the malt core delivers a satisfying crackery impression with some tangy wheat and a light hint of caramel. Those noble hops...

This amber ale pours – as one would expect – a rich-looking medium amber color, well-filtered, and topped by a voluminous head of light beige foam. On the nose, we picked up lots of caramel notes, accompanied by fruity tones of apple and stone fruit, plus some earthy and spicy noble hops with a floral hint. In the flavor, this brew really hit the spot. Look for a nice toasty & bready impression at the core of this satisfying amber ale...

This "northern" IPA, as Fulton has dubbed this creation, presents a gorgeous amber hue in the glass, capped by a crop of off-white foam that sticks around nicely before eventually dropping to a persistent collar. The nose on this one intrigued us; look for notes of pine and fresh-cut wood to evoke a certain northern forest-like quality, backed up by fragrant floral tones and soft citrus with just a touch of underlying toasty malt. That...

Brewed originally to celebrate the 300th batch brewed at Fulton's original brewery location, this West Coast-style IPA pours a bright golden copper color capped by a nicely formed head of foam that laces the glass as it recedes. On the nose, look for a complex hop profile to deliver lots of luscious tropical fruit notes conjuring mango, papaya, and pineapple, along with impressions of orange and lemon-lime citrus, and a nice herbal dose with...

A 2006 World Beer Championships Gold Medal winner and rated Exceptional (91 points) by the Beverage Tasting Institute, Hobgoblin pours a dark amber/ light brown color with an attractive head that leaves good lace. On the nose, rich aromas of caramel, toffee, and maple syrup come forth, along with a bit of true-to-style butterscotch, dark fruits, and a touch of nuttiness and chocolate. There’s also a certain woodiness, as if the beer had been...

Belhaven Black certainly lives up to its name, presenting an impenetrably dark color capped by a nitrogenated, tight-bubbled head of creamy, light brown foam. In the aroma, look for luscious notes of chocolate, brown bread, and deep caramel, along with touches of roasted coffee and molasses, overlaid with lightly spicy and woody hop notes. We're big fans of beers on nitro, especially stouts, and the first thing we noticed about this beer...

We’re pleased to have another Rare Beer Club exclusive this month from our friends at The Lost Abbey: a blended barrel-aged old ale Tomme & Co. assembled for the club. Righteous Son is a brilliantly presented blended beer overall—bringing forward complex sherry notes plus loads of deep dark fruit and caramelization. Bonus: this one also stays super drinkable.

- ABV: 11%
- Serving Temperature: 52–59° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Snifter, or Pinot Glass
- Country: United States
Of all the beers we’ve been able to sample from West Sixth Brewing, Snake Eyes imperial stout stood out as an incredibly generous and unique example of its style. We love tracking down delicious imperial stouts that manage to stand out from the sea of them, and the West Sixth Snake Eyes just brought a ton of complexity along with an overall malt expression that felt like it occupied a lesser-explored part of the imperial-stout spectrum: leanly...
