- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Centennial, Citra, Mosaic, Amarillo
- Malts: Pilsner, Red Wheat, Caramel, Honey
- Country: United States
Pouring a hazy golden color with a thick and creamy head of foam, this pale ale offers up a good look to go with an inviting aroma. Luscious hop notes evoke soft orange and grapefruit citrus tones, tropical fruit and floral impressions, melon, stone fruits, and a dash of gooseberry. Look for a nicely citric profile in the flavor, too, a bit zestier than in the aroma, augmented by those tropical notes. The malt backbone adds light caramelization...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 5.4%
- Serving Temperature: 43-48º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass, Pint Glass
- Hops: Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe
- Malts: Pilsner, Red Wheat, Maris Otter, Flaked Barley, Wheat
- Country: United States
Zipline's Alpha Modern is a somewhat different sort of IPA than we're used to. The brewers set out to craft a fairly sessionable IPA without the common pitfalls of a loss of flavor and body. To this end, they've left the beer unfiltered (which has become super popular these days with the "New England" style of IPA) so as not to rob the beer of any heft unnecessarily. They've also added a lot of hops here, and it shows in the flavor. Pouring...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: English Porter
- ABV: 5.8%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 39
- Serving Temperature: 48-55º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Willamette
- Malts: 2-Row Pale, Caramel, Dark Chocolate, Midnight Wheat
- Country: United States
Foothills' People's Porter presents a deep brown hue with reddish flashes and a cap of medium brown foam. On the nose, chocolate and caramel malts are apparent, along with hints of coffee, a touch of woodiness, and some herbal, grassy notes. Look for the theme to continue on the palate, although with more deeply toasted and roasted notes. Bitter chocolate, dark roasted coffee, scorched caramel, and a bit of wood smoke are noticeable too, along...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Czech/Bohemian Pilsner
- ABV: 5.3%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 35
- Serving Temperature: 40-45º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass, Flute
- Hops: Saaz
- Malts: Superior Pilsen, Munich, Vienna, Wheat, Acidulated
- Country: United States
It can sometimes be hard to find a good American-made Czech/Bohemian Pilsner, so we’re excited to have encountered this excellent version from Foothills. Winner of bronze GABF medals in both 2016 and 2017, and then named to Craft Beer & Brewing magazine’s top 19 beers of 2019, Torch Pilsner certainly looks true to style as it pours a bright golden color with great clarity and capped with a robust head of white foam. On the nose, look for a big...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 6.25%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 70
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass, Pint Glass
- Hops: Simcoe, Cascade, Eureka, Apollo
- Malts: Caramel, Acidulated
- Country: United States
This IPA from Foothills is the brewery’s most popular beer, and after sampling it, it’s easy to see why. Hoppyum presents a radiant copper-amber hue in the glass, topped with a khaki crop of foam that laces nicely as it recedes to a persistent ring. In the aroma department, we picked up tangerine and orange notes with a little pink grapefruit, hints of dark berry, and a distinct pine-like herbal impression. On the palate, there’s a solid...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 6.5%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 60
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass, Pint Glass
- Hops: Centennial, Nugget, Cascade, Citra
- Malts: Pilsner, Munich, Honey, Flaked Wheat
- Country: United States
Zipline’s IPA presents a lightly hazy golden color topped by a sizeable head of bright foam that leaves plenty of lace as it drops. On the nose, look for big citrus notes conjuring candied orange peel and tangerine with significant resinous and herbal character, along with tropical impressions, softly floral notes, some earthiness, and touches of woodiness. It’s an inviting aroma and very classically American. The story continues much the same...
- Bottle Size: 330-ml
- Style: Festbier
- ABV: 5.2%
- Serving Temperature: 43-48° F
- Suggested Glassware: Flute, Pilsner Glass
- Hops: Hallertau
- Country: Germany
This festbier from Riegele is their flagship product and boasts numerous awards including “Beer of the Year”, “Beer of the Decade”, 6 European Gold Stars, and 9 DLG Golds. It was also named to the #1 spot in Beer Connoisseur magazine’s Top 250 Beers of 2018. Pouring a bright, crystal clear golden hue with a big cap of white foam, Privat offers up an inviting and very German aroma straight away; look for classic Hallertau noble hops...
- Bottle Size: 330-ml
- Style: Weizenbock (Wheat Doppelbock)
- ABV: 8.0%
- Serving Temperature: 43-48° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Snifter
- Hops: Hallertau
- Country: Germany
Pouring a cloudy, ruddy amber color and topped by a large, dense head of khaki foam, Augustus is a classic-looking weizenbock. On the nose, look for those signature Bavarian wheat beer elements, driven by a very expressive top-fermenting yeast strain: clove-like phenols, banana, and bubblegum, bolstered by complex fruity esters conjuring dried fig, apple skin, white grape juice, raisin, and more. A dash of floral and spicy hops augment...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Flanders-red-inspired Berlin-Style Wheat Ale aged in Cypress Tanks
- ABV: 6.9%
- Serving Temperature: 42–50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Goblet, or Chalice
- Country: United States
August Schell’s Solar Evolution is part of the brewery’s Noble Star Collection—inspired by Berlin-style wheat beers. This particularly ambitious entry into the collection combines the traditional brewing methods of Flanders Red and Berliner Weisse, beginning with a wheat-based Flanders Red Ale recipe, which then gets brewed with the core methods of the Noble Star Collection: including a no-boil, mixed-culture fermentation, before the beer gets aged...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Bourbon-Barrel-Aged Imperial Porter w/ Cocoa Nibs & Orange Peel
- ABV: 8.0%
- Serving Temperature: 52–59° F
- Suggested Glassware: Small Nonic, Tulip, or Snifter
- Country: United States
Blue Mountain Brewery’s Isabel is an imperial bourbon-barrel-aged porter made with cocoa nibs and orange peels. Named after Isabel, the Princess Imperial of Brazil in the late 1800s—nicknamed “the Redemptress”, she emancipated the slaves of Brazil after signing Lei Áurea (the “Golden Law”) in 1888—this imperial porter brings together the influence of bourbon barrels (Isabel was part of the Royal House of Bourbon) as well as orange and cocoa...
