- Serving Temperature: 48-55º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Target
- Malts: Pale, Crystal, Chocolate, Toasted Oats

Pouring a deep, mahogany-like, reddish-brown hue capped by a light tan head, Ringneck looks good in our glasses as we move in for a sniff. Named in honor of a famous species of duck that calls Minnesota home, this brew started life as a fall seasonal before being elevated to year-round due to popular demand. On the nose, we picked up quite an inviting malt profile offering notes of toast, brown bread, mild roast, moderate caramelization, and a touch of earthy spice. Look for all these notes to...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Milk Stout
- ABV: 5.5%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 20
- Serving Temperature: 47-52º F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Snifter, Pint Glass
- Hops: Nugget, Mt. Hood
- Malts: Dark Chocolate Malts, Lactose
- Country: United States
This cream, or milk, stout is brewed with a dose of lactose sugar to sweeten things up a bit – it’s a classic style that aims to create an interplay between the typical roasty stout character and balancing sweetness. This interpretation from Lazy Magnolia pours a very deep brown color, capped with plenty of attractive brown foam. Look for some definite chocolate toastiness on the nose, accompanied by prominent caramel notes, a hint of char/smoke, and some mild-roasted coffee. There's a distinct chocolate-covered...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy
- ABV: 7.8%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 20
- Serving Temperature: 48-55º F
- Suggested Glassware: Snifter or Tulip
- Hops: Target
- Malts: Golden Promise, Peat Smoked, Crystal, Munich, Cherry Wood Smoked
- Country: United States
Our Scottish Gaelic is a little rusty, but we’re told Bancreagie is pronounced “bon-cray-gee” and means “valley of the white rock” – in honor of a granite aquifer beneath the brewery. Not all Scotch Ales are made with peat-smoked malt but, traditionally, many of them are. The same technique leads to the distinctively smoky character of Islay Scotch, and this is what Brau Brothers were going for with Bancreagie. We’re excited to have encountered a good American version...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American Blonde/Golden Ale
- ABV: 4.5%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 15
- Serving Temperature: 37-42º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Mosaic
- Malts: 2-Row, Pilsner, Wheat, Carapils, Bonlander
- Country: United States
This golden ale unsurprisingly presents a crystal clear bright golden color, topped by a robust and lasting head of pale foam. Typical of Mosaic hops, we have a multifaceted hop aroma here, boasting multiple subtle notes of light tropical fruit, various stone and orchard fruits, hints of citrus zest, and a dash of grassiness. The malts provide a prominent undercurrent of bread and lightly honeyed graham cracker. On the palate, look for this brew to come across light-bodied but flavorful, with plenty of...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Double IPA
- ABV: 9.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 94
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Snifter
- Hops: Nugget, Galaxy, Ahtanum, Simcoe, Centennial
- Malts: 2-Row, Crystal, Carapils, Rye
- Country: United States
Pouring a bright copper hue with a fluffy cap of light tan foam, this Imperial IPA delivers a pleasant array of citruses in the aroma, including grapefruit and tangerine, backed up by pine and herbal spice notes. There’s a noticeable undercurrent of caramelization here, too, and that caramelized malt character comes through quite robustly on the palate too, creating a rich foundation for the massive dose of hops. Look for notes of candied citrus peel to land in the grapefruit-orange-tangerine realm...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: New England Hazy IPA
- ABV: 6.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 40
- Serving Temperature: 42-47º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass, Tulip, Pint Glass
- Hops: Citra, Falconer’s Flight, Mosaic, Cashmere
- Malts: 2-Row, Wheat, Oats
- Country: United States
This New England-style hazy IPA presents a nicely hazed golden-straw color in the glass, topped with a rocky head of foam. Expect a big upfront juiciness in the aroma, with significant zesty lemon-lime citrus merging into robust tropical fruits, pear, melon, light peach, and a wisp of coconut. On the palate, the malt core is fairly dry and light here, in proportion with the hop bitterness which, at 40 IBU, is not palate-wrecking. This allows those fruity hop flavors to play out strongly without any palate fatigue...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 7.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 67
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass, Pint Glass, or Mug
- Hops: El Dorado, Cascade, Centennial, Citra
- Malts: Vienna, Pale, Caramalt
- Country: United States
Named after iconic maple trees at the Brau Brothers brewery, and representing the brewery’s first true IPA they have ever bottled, 3 Trees presents a lightly hazy copper-amber color with a head of off-white foam as it rests in our glass. On the nose, look for this IPA to present prominent tropical and citrus aromas conjuring notes of juicy mango, candied orange, and grapefruit zest alongside hints of stone fruits and some perfumed floral and spiced qualities. On the palate, there’s an ample...
- Bottle Size: 330-ml
- Style: Oud Bruin
- ABV: 5.5%
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Snifter
- Country: Belgium
Originally called Bios Vlaams Bourgogne, this brew was renamed in honor of Monk’s Café, a famous Belgian beer bar and restaurant in Philadelphia which is easily one of the best places in America to kick back and enjoy a Belgian ale, or two. The beer is an Oud Bruin (“old brown”), a traditional style of sour ale that’s similar in many ways to the related Flemish Red Ale popularized by Rodenbach. The brown and red ales of Flanders are arguably the most wine-like of all beers, hence the branding you’ll sometimes see of “Bourgogne” or...
- Bottle Size: 330-ml
- Style: Austrian Märzen / Helles Lager
- ABV: 5.0%
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass, Flute, Stange
- Country: Austria
Known as Salzburg’s “liquid gold,” Goldbräu unsurprisingly presents a bright golden hue in the glass, with crystal clarity and a bold cap of white foam which persists well. Locals would consider this brew an Austrian Märzen, which is distinct from the somewhat darker-hued German version, though we think Helles Lager is an equally appropriate descriptor. On the nose, look for a nice dose of fresh doughy bread and some crackery notes, overlaid by a lightly floral and somewhat grassy hop profile. This brew comes across...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Hoppy Blended Amber Ale (“A Skagitonian Montage” blend of four beers)
- ABV: 5.3%
- Serving Temperature: 42–49° F
- Suggested Glassware: Nonic, Stange, or Tulip Glass
- Country: United States
For our annual collaboration with the Pints for Prostates organization, we’ve worked with the folks over at Garden Path Fermentation on a very special beer for this Rare Beer Club exclusive. This release, The Whole Sum Parts., is a custom blend of four different beers, ultimately creating a hoppy amber ale that riffs off the classic bière de garde style. The final blend combines a barrel of beer heavily dry-hopped with Ekuanot, a table beer, an English-style bitter, and a tart amber. We worked with Garden Path and Rick Lyke over at Pints for Prostates to put this blend together, and we’re looking forward to getting this tasty release out to our RBC members.
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Strong Scotch Ale aged in Pinot Noir barrels
- ABV: 10%
- Serving Temperature: 45–52° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Goblet, Thistle, or Pinot Glass
- Country: Belgium
This special release from Brasserie de Silly, a limited barrel-aged offering of the brewery’s famous Scotch Silly ale, gets aged in a particular type of barrel, the variety of which varies each year. We have recently seen the likes of Bourbon-, Bordeaux-, and Cognac-barrel-aged versions. But this latest one, aged in Pinot Noir barrels, was something special. It combines the rich, caramelly impact of its Scotch Silly base with fruity, vinous counterpoints from that residual barrel character. Only about 600 cases were sold in the U.S. in 2019, across 5 states. No sales are planned for 2020 beyond the allocation for Rare Beer Club members.
We’re so proud of our featured beers, that we list them going all the way back to 1995
No other Beer Club can claim the same. Check out what we’ve been up for the last 20+ years. We know you’ll be impressed enough to see what’s coming next month.
