Harpoon’s seasonal winter ale presents a beautiful reddish mahogany color in the glass, capped by a crop of beige foam. Brewed with cinnamon and nutmeg, it’s no surprise to find those spice additions greeting us immediately on the nose, evoking ginger snaps as well as the rustic traditional ales brewed centuries ago which relied not on hops but on herbs and spices to add balance to beer. Lurking below is a rich caramel impression and some brown...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American Pale Ale
- ABV: 4.8%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 31
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F

- Hops: Summit, Cascade
- Malts: 2-Row Pale, Dextrin, Pale Wheat
- Country: United States
The Great Outdoors presents us with a brightly golden and slightly hazed color, topped by a cap of pale foam. Crafted with Summit and Cascade hops, we pick up a classic American hop aroma offering bright citrus notes of orange, grapefruit, and tangerine along with softer and more delicate floral tones. The malts offer an undercurrent with light suggestions of cracker or bread. Look for all these themes to play out on the palate, too, where..
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: New England Hazy IPA

- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 50
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F

Harpoon’s Big League is an amped-up version of their sub-4% ABV Rec. League hazy session IPA (previously featured in the club). The brewers doubled the recipe for Rec. League, giving us a much bolder New England-style IPA. We get a nicely bright golden color on the pour, moderately hazed, with a persistent and quite fluffy cap of pale foam. Much like Rec. League, there’s a lush and very fruity character in the aroma profile. Look for citrus...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American Amber Ale
- ABV: 5.5%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 24
- Serving Temperature: 47-52º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Summit, Centennial, Cascade
- Malts: Maris Otter, Munich, Crystal Light, C120, Victory
- Country: United States
Pouring a medium amber color with crystal clarity and a cap of khaki foam, this brew begins drawing us in with its appearance and its nice balance between malty and hoppy aromas. Look for a strong undercurrent of caramel, toffee, and mildly toasty breadiness, overlaid by floral hops with secondary citric and herbal tones. Amber/red ales are a broad style and a bit of a mixed bag, with some decidedly favoring the malt contribution and others...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 7.1%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 70
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass, Pint Glass
- Hops: Apollo, Cascade, Centennial, Columbus
- Malts: 2-Row, Carared, Dextrin
- Country: United States
This IPA pours a bright golden hue with a robust cap of persistent off-white foam that laces our glasses well. In the aroma, look for citrus to dominate with notes of grapefruit rind and light orange and lemon overtones. Some pleasant floral character comes through, as well, offering hints of jasmine and citrus blossoms, backed up by some herbal spice. The zesty citrus character comes forth on the palate right away, along with some resinous...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: English-style IPA
- ABV: 6.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 42
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass, Pint Glass
- Hops: Apollo, Chinook, Cascade
- Malts: 2-Row, Victory, Caramel
- Country: United States
Harpoon first brewed this IPA in 1993, and it’s become a regional New England classic. But don’t confuse it for the more recent style of “New England Hazy IPA”; Harpoon constructed their Harpoon IPA as an English-style IPA, but featuring American hop varieties to add a definite American character. On the pour, we get an attractive copper hue with excellent clarity and a robust head of tight-bubbled foam that laces nicely as it drops. Juicy...
- Bottle Size: 500-ml
- Style: Kellerbier
- ABV: 5.2%
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Mug or Stein
- Country: Germany
In recent years, we’ve seen many German breweries offering “Landbier”, which essentially translates as “country beer” or “beer of the area”. It’s debatable whether landbier is itself a distinct style, as it can vary by region and brewery, but they generally take the form of a kellerbier or zwickelbier, which are more rustic interpretations of lager, unfiltered, and often – but not always – relatively low in carbonation. Introduced in 2014...
- Bottle Size: 500-ml
- Style: German Pilsner
- ABV: 4.8%
- Serving Temperature: 40-45° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass
- Country: Germany
Brauerei Veltins’ flagship beer presents a pale golden-straw color with crystal clarity and a large, bright head of foam. It’s a classic German pils in the aroma, with noble hops taking our attention at first sniff, offering grassy-herbal notes backed by some earthy spice and just a hint of lemon. Some very clean pils malt sits below, delivering crisp crackery impressions. Expect a refreshing brew on the palate, with a nicely hoppy presence to...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Russian-style Imperial Stout w/ Roasted Coffee Beans & Belgian Chocolate
- ABV: 11%
- Serving Temperature: 50–57° F
- Suggested Glassware: Snifter, Small Nonic, or Tulip
- Country: Belgium
Kollusion should continue to age gracefully in the bottle if you choose to cellar some. That 11% ABV and tight construction suggest this should do nicely with a bit more caramel and sherry-like oxidative qualities. For food pairings: the brewery suggests chocolate brownies, or a Crème Malakoff (an almond cream trifle from Austria that sounds absolutely delicious).
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Oak-aged Belgian Strong Ale (aged in Sherry & Whisky barrels)
- ABV: 10%
- Serving Temperature: 44–52° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Chalice, Goblet, or Pinot glass
- Country: Belgium
This 10%-ABV Belgian strong ale is sturdy enough for some cellaring time, but we wouldn’t push it too far—this is drinking in its prime right now. The combo of a lightly sweet oak and deep fruitiness have us looking to vanilla- and chocolate-focused dessert courses, though this should also pair beautifully with cheese and charcuterie. Super flexible in both situations.
