- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 40
- Serving Temperature: 50-55º F

- Hops: Delta
- Malts: Golden Promise, Chocolate, Brown, Roasted Barley, Flaked Oats
- Country: United States
This Gold Medal winner in the Robust Porter category at the 2021 Great American Beer Festival presents a very dark brown with garnet flashes, topped by a richly brown cap of foam. On the nose, we picked up plenty of deeply roasted notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and scorched caramel, with touches of dark fruit evoking plum, along with a hint of citrus when swirled and a certain forest-like impression. On the palate, look for the beer’s...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American Strong Ale
- ABV: 7.3%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 77
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: Snifter, Tulip, or Pint Glass
- Hops: Cascade, Centennial
- Malts: 2-Row Pale, Crystal, Wheat Malt, Aromatic, Special B
- Country: United States
Brau Brothers calls SheepHead an "American bitter", a combination of styles melding the deep and round maltiness of a British bitter with fruity and zesty American hops. With a big 77 IBU dose of American hops and an ABV over 7%, it could easily be considered in the IPA/Double IPA family, or the somewhat catch-all American Strong Ale category. Featuring the classic duo of Centennial and Cascade, the aroma of this light amber brew offers a touch...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: ESB
- ABV: 32
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 5.5%
- Serving Temperature: 47-55º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Fuggle
- Malts: Golden Promise, Double-Roasted Crystal, Brown, Chit, Chocolate
- Country: United States
English Bitter is a traditional low-ABV English style that’s not particularly bitter, but is more assertive than other low-ABV brews like English Mild Ale. ESB (which is short for Extra Special Bitter or Extra Strong Bitter) is a more amped-up version of Bitter, boasting higher ABV, a bit more hops, and generally richer flavors. As is par for the style, Green Man’s ESB presents an attractive amber-brown color topped with a head of khaki..
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Czech Pilsner
- ABV: 5.2%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): Unknown
- Serving Temperature: 40-45º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass, Flute
- Hops: Sterling, Saaz
- Malts: Vienna, 2-Row Pale, Dextrin, Acidulated
- Country: United States
Thresher presents a rich golden hue with crystal clarity and a lasting cap of white foam that laces the glass nicely. It’s a true-to-style Czech/Bohemian pils look that’s just a couple shades deeper than most German pils. In the aroma, look for an undercurrent of lightly toasty malts with a dash of caramel, overlaid by the earthy, spicy Saaz hop character for which Czech-style pilsners are known. The malt character comes through well on...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 7.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 76
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass, Pint Glass, or Mug
- Hops: El Dorado, Mosaic, Simcoe
- Malts: Golden Promise, Rahr 2-Row, White Wheat, Chit, Acidulated
- Country: United States
Trickster presents a moderately hazy golden color topped by a fluffy crop of pale foam. On the nose, we picked up bold and juicy notes of citrus, prominent stone fruits, tropical fruits akin to a mélange of papaya, passion fruit, mango, and pineapple, and some pine and mint-like herbal overtones. That tropical fruit character really comes through front and center on the palate, too. A prominent peach-like note contributes to these softer hop...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 6.8%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 70
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass, Pint Glass, or Mug
- Hops: Centennial, El Dorado, Cascade
- Malts: Vienna, Pale, Carafoam, Caramalt, Acidulated
- Country: United States
Named after iconic maple trees at the Brau Brothers brewery, and representing the brewery’s first true IPA they have ever bottled, 3 Trees presents a lightly hazy copper-amber color with a head of off-white foam as it rests in our glass. On the nose, look for this IPA to present prominent tropical and citrus aromas conjuring notes of juicy mango, candied orange, and grapefruit zest alongside hints of stone fruits and some perfumed floral and...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 6.2%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 63
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass, Pint Glass, or Mug
- Hops: Cascade, Centennial, Columbus
- Malts: Golden Promise, Crystal T50, Chit
- Country: United States
Green Man’s IPA pours a golden copper hue with good clarity and a sizable head of off-white foam. Expect big citrus character in the aroma, boasting zesty notes of grapefruit, orange, and tangerine, with some secondary floral and herbal tones, all overlaid on a lightly toasty malt base. On the palate, those malts form a good backbone of moderate caramelization and that toasty, mild breadiness. Naturally, though, the stars of the show are a trio...
- Bottle Size: 330-ml
- Style: Doppelbock
- ABV: 7.2%
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Snifter
- Country: Germany
This doppelbock is the guest of honor at a yearly festival where Arcobräu publicly taps the beer to the delight of the people of Moos and surrounding parts of Bavaria. Despite doppelbock being among our favorite lager styles, somehow Coronator has managed to fly under our radar – until now. Pouring a reddish coppery brown with beautiful clarity and a head of light beige foam, this brew follows up with an engaging aroma right off the bat. Look...
- Bottle Size: 330-ml
- Style: Zwickelbier
- ABV: 5.2%
- Serving Temperature: 42-47° F
- Suggested Glassware: Stange, Pilsner Glass, Mug
- Country: Germany
Zwickelbier is a variation on kellerbier, which is a German style known for being unfiltered and matured in cellars in wood casks left not completely sealed, which allows much of the carbonation to escape. Zwickel (or Zwickl) casks, however, are usually sealed for a while before bottling, allowing more carbonation to build up. They are also usually crafted to be a bit lighter in hop flavor. Arcobräu’s Zwickl presents a bright golden color...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Blend of Imperial Stout & Bourbon-Barrel-Aged Barleywine
- ABV: 12%
- Serving Temperature: 40–45° F
- Suggested Glassware: Snifter, Chalice, Tulip, or Teku
- Country: United States
This blend will continue to age gracefully and develop for at least a few years in the bottle, or longer. Nicely balanced as is, but certainly could tolerate some additional caramel character. This seems super versatile with food pairings given the way it melds those imperial stout and barleywine spaces. Roast, caramel, and dark chocolate have this primed for grilled steaks or a variety of dessert courses. Vanilla-focused fare would counterpoint...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Vintage Oak-Aged Oude Kriek
- ABV: 6%
- Serving Temperature: 46–54° F
- Suggested Glassware: Lambic Tumbler, Flute, or Tulip Glass
- Country: Belgium
The brewery gives this kriek a 20-year shelf life, so expect it to continue aging gracefully for years to come. For pairings: they suggest cherry sabayon and/or ice cream for dessert, or to serve their kriek alongside salmon, pheasant, duck, chicken, or turkey. (Turducken-ready.)
