- Serving Temperature: 42-47º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass
- Hops: Chinook, Summit, Citra
- Malts: Pilsner, Wheat
- Country: United States
Pouring a golden straw color with a light haze and a cap of crisp white foam, Fresh Cut represents Peak Organic’s foray into the American trend of taking lager styles and amping up the bitterness a bit while using American hops for a distinctly different character. There’s also another trend currently towards more “sessionable”, lower-ABV IPAs, and Fresh Cut shares some similarities with such beers, albeit as a lager and with...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Kölsch
- ABV: 4.5%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 22
- Serving Temperature: 40-45º F
- Suggested Glassware: Stange, Pilsner Glass, Flute
- Hops: Sterling, Hallertau Blanc, Smaragd
- Malts: 2-Row Pale, Barke Pilsner, Red Wheat, Munich
- Country: United States
Though a German style, Kölsch is not a lager like so many other styles from that nation, but rather a top-fermenting ale style which then undergoes cold conditioning like a lager. It’s a classic style hailing from Köln (Cologne), and it’s one of our go-to brews during spring and summer due to its refreshing character. Schell’s Lake Escape certainly looks the part, pouring a true-to-style light golden hue with superb clarity, topped by a fluffy...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American Pilsner
- ABV: 4.7%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 15
- Serving Temperature: 42-47º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass
- Hops: Citra
- Malts: Pale, Wheat
- Country: United States
Peak’s Happy Hour presents a bright straw color in the glass, with good clarity and a bright head of white foam. Brewed with Citra hops, this pilsner embraces an American character, leading to aromas of citrus zest along with some floral overtones and some spicy elements. In the flavor, we get a tasty malt core offering a good dose of crackery and bready character. Look for those hops to come through much as they did in the aroma, with an...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American Wheat Ale with Citrus
- ABV: 3.9%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 10
- Serving Temperature: 40-45º F
- Suggested Glassware: Flute, Pint Glass
- Hops: Calypso, Cascade
- Malts: 2-Row Pale, Wheat, Munich, Dextrose
- Country: United States
This citrus wheat ale pours a lightly hazed bright golden straw color with an energetic head of foam. Schell’s uses natural grapefruit and orange in this brew, and those additions are super bright and bold in the aroma. The use of citrus fruits is common with wheat beers, such as the use of orange peel in Belgian witbiers or the preference many have for a lemon wedge in their hefeweizen, and it’s working nicely here too. On the palate, the malt...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 7.1%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 60
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass, Pint Glass, or Mug
- Hops: Amarillo, Simcoe, Nugget
- Malts: Pale, Crystal 60
- Country: United States
Pouring a bright golden hue with some haze and a cap of just-off-white foam, Peak Organic IPA looks good in the glass while also presenting quite an inviting aroma profile; look for piney, floral, and citric notes reminiscent of grapefruit and orange, with stone fruit and tropical overtones and a touch of mild caramel underneath it all. Dry-hopped with both Simcoe and Amarillo, this IPA is not shy on the palate either. A good backbone of pale...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Hoppy American Wheat Ale
- ABV: 5.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 61
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Amarillo
- Malts: Pale, Carapils, Wheat
- Country: United States
Peak describes their Summer Session Ale as a marriage between a summer wheat ale and a West Coast pale ale, and we think it’s a pretty appropriate way of looking at things. Bright golden and lightly hazy on the pour, this brew offers up prominent fruity, citric hop aromas overtop a fairly robust core of pale malt, mild caramel, and warm biscuits. On the palate, expect the hoppy citrus notes to evoke lemon and, to a lesser degree, orange...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA with Citrus Peel & Vanilla
- ABV: 7.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 69
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass, Pint Glass, or Mug
- Hops: Lotus, Centennial, Citra, Saaz, Simcoe
- Malts: 2 Row, Light Crystal
- Country: United States
Pouring a bright golden orange color, Pinch of Grace rests nicely in the glass, topped by a fluffy cap of foam. Two Brothers has built an unusual IPA here, using citrus peel to augment the citric hop notes – which is not particularly uncommon – but they’ve also added a “pinch” of vanilla to create a very unique experience. Look for plenty of citrus notes in the aroma, courtesy of the hops and citrus peel, with a light hint of vanilla, all...
- Bottle Size: 500-ml
- Style: Festbier
- ABV: 5.8%
- Serving Temperature: 42-47° F
- Suggested Glassware: Willi Becher, Mug, Stein, Pint Glass
- Country: Germany
Traditionally brewed in March (März), Märzen, the original Oktoberfest beer style, was brewed with more malt than usual (which yields more fermentable sugars, which in turn yields more alcohol) in order to beef the beer up to survive storage through the summer months when it was generally too hot to brew. Since the 1990s, the beer commonly served at Oktoberfest has been the somewhat lighter style known as Festbier. Tucher’s version presents a bright golden hue with excellent clarity, topped by a robust head of tight-bubbled...
- Bottle Size: 500-ml
- Style: Hefeweizen
- ABV: 5.0%
- Serving Temperature: 42-47° F
- Suggested Glassware: Weizen Glass, Pilsner Glass
- Country: Austria
Brewed in the style of a traditional Bavarian weissbier, or hefeweizen, Eggenberg’s Helle Weizen looks exactly as we expect as it enters our tall weizen glass: an unfiltered, super cloudy, golden straw color topped by a voluminous head of pale foam. In the aroma, this wheat beer is totally on point: look for bold yeast-driven esters evoking banana and bubblegum to jump right out. The phenolic, somewhat clove-like herbal notes we look for in weissbier are here as well, offering a spicy balance to the fruitier notes. All these aromas translate...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Scottish-Style Gruit Ale
- ABV: 7.5%
- Serving Temperature: 48–55° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Nonic, or Thistle Glass
- Country: Netherlands
Although Gritty Young Thing’s a touch lighter in ABV than Jopen Koyt (7.5% vs. 8.5%), the brewery still expects this to be a very interesting beer for aging. We’d keep an eye on things by popping a bottle every six months or so. This herbaceous gruit should pair nicely with smoked salmon, rich stews, potent cheeses, or steamed mussels and frites.
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Stout with Maple Syrup, Vanilla & Cacao Nibs
- ABV: 7.5%
- Serving Temperature: 52–58° F
- Suggested Glassware: Snifter, Small Nonic, or Tulip
- Country: United States
We expect the expressive impacts from the vanilla and maple syrup to be most potent early on, such that we’re inclined to pop this stout on the fresher side. This one isn’t quite fully into imperial-stout territory, but that 7.5% ABV should at least provide some sturdiness if you decide to hold onto bottles for a bit. For pairings: the core combination of maple syrup, vanilla, chocolate, and roast have us inclined to angle this toward desserts. Vanilla ice cream, affogato, cookies… or brownies, should you feel like emphasizing that rich core chocolate.
