- Hops: Hallertau Tradition
- Malts: 2-Row, Vienna, Munich, Carafoam
- Country: United States
This multiple Can Can Awards Gold Medal winner and 2016 U.S. Beer Tasting Championship Grand Champion presents a slightly hazy coppery-golden color capped by a voluminous head of long-lasting off-white foam. On the nose, look for prominent grassy, hay-like hop notes with underlying earth, hints of stone fruit, and a bit of yeasty spice. On the palate, we found this Helles to be remarkably complex and interesting. The malty core is quite tasty...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Altbier
- ABV: 5.2%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 20
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: Stange, Pint Glass, Mug
- Hops: German Magnum, Hallertau Mittelfrüh, Sterling
- Malts: Pilsner, Carahell, Caramunich, Special B, Carafa
- Country: United States
Altbier is a German style indigenous to the Düsseldorf area. Meaning “old beer”, the name is a reference to it being a top-fermented beer (essentially an ale) that hails from a time prior to the region’s widespread adoption of bottom-fermenting lagers. Altbiers are a bit of a hybrid, however, as they are fermented at cooler temperatures that are more typical of lagers than ales. This version from Zipline is an exceptional American version...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American Pale Ale
- ABV: 5.4%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 42
- Serving Temperature: 42-47º F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: Citra, El Dorado
- Malts: 2-Row, Caramunich 1, Dextrin
- Country: United States
This back-to-back (2021 & 2022) Gold Medal winner at the South Carolina Beer Awards offers us a well-hazed bright orange color with an energetic head of off-white foam. We were immediately taken by how inviting the aromatics were on this pale ale. We picked up prominent fruity notes of sliced melon and orange-leaning citrus, with additional apricot, peach, and pineapple tones complemented by a little tropical flora and maybe even a wisp of...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Robust Porter
- ABV: 6.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 22
- Serving Temperature: 48-53° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or Mug
- Hops: German Magnum, Sterling
- Malts: Pilsner, Caramunich, Special B, Chocolate, Carafa, Flaked Barley, Rolled Oats
- Country: United States
Zipline's Oatmeal Porter pours a very dark brown color, almost black, capped by a sturdy head of medium brown foam. Porter is a broad style with English origins that's interpreted in a multitude of ways in the present day. This version is decidedly in the "robust porter" camp, featuring a bold profile that is right up our alley. On the nose, we picked up plenty of roasty notes with touches of dark roast coffee grounds and very dark chocolate...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: New England-style IPA
- ABV: 6.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 60
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass or Pint Glass
- Hops: Azacca, Mosaic, Simcoe, Idaho 7
- Malts: 2-Row, Golden Naked Oats, White Wheat, Dextrin
- Country: United States
New England-style hazy IPAs are all the rage these days, and Southern Barrel's foray into the style is a particularly tasty version. Pouring a very hazy orange color with a robust and persistent cap of foam, this brew looks good in the glass as it leaves sheets of lace as we drain it. In the aroma, look for big, juicy hops offering citrus and tropical notes, soft floral tones, hints of pine, and touches of stone fruit. The story continues in...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American IPA
- ABV: 7.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 55
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass or Pint Glass
- Hops: Mosaic, Amarillo, El Dorado
- Malts: Pilsner, Munich, Honey, Flaked Barley
- Country: United States
This 2020 US Open Beer Championship silver medalist presents brightly golden and lightly hazed in our glasses, with a well-formed head that drops some lace as it descends to a persistent collar. On the nose, look for quite a luscious aroma profile offering Mosaic’s hallmark complexity, bolstered by additions of Amarillo and El Dorado. There’s a tropical impression evoking papaya and mango, shot through with a bit of resinous citrus zest. We...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Double IPA
- ABV: 8.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 45
- Serving Temperature: 45-50º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass or Tulip
- Hops: Cashmere, Lotus
- Malts: Pilsner, Munich, Naked Oats, Flaked Wheat
- Country: United States
Zipline's Dope! presents a bright golden-yellow with a bit of haze and a robust cap of fluffy foam. In the aroma department, we picked up a soft lemon-lime citrus impression which melds with some light tropical and candied stone fruit notes, melon, a little berry and white grape juice, a dash of vanilla and fresh coconut, and a distinct herbal spice note. Cashmere hops are known for their smoothness, and on the palate this does indeed come...
- Bottle Size: 330-ml
- Style: Munich Dunkel Lager
- ABV: 5.2%
- Serving Temperature: 45-50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass, Flute
- Country: Germany
Freising’s Dunkel presents a deep, dark mahogany color with crystal clarity and a head of fluffy beige foam. On the nose, look for prominent toasty and bready notes with hints of hard pretzels, merging with deep-down caramelization amidst flashes of dried dark fruits which conjure impressions of date, raisin, and fig. Expect the story to continue on the palate as a super-flavorful and deep caramel character – which is emblematic of the...
- Bottle Size: 330-ml
- Style: Dortmunder
- ABV: 5.6%
- Serving Temperature: 40-45° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass or Flute
- Country: Germany
Freising's Jägerbier, meaning "hunter beer", is brewed in the traditional Dortmunder style, also known as Export Lager as it was brewed to a strength suitable for export journeys. Compared to a German Pilsner or Helles Lager, Dortmunder tends to offer the maltier impression and dash of sweetness of the Helles, along with the brighter and more bitter hops of a Pils, and a touch more alcohol. Jägerbier presents a clear, deep golden color with...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Barrel-Aged Wild Stout with Cherry and Blackberry
- ABV: 8.5%
- Serving Temperature: 45–50° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Chalice, Goblet, or Teku Glass
- Country: United States
Who Needs an Occasion? can be drunk now and has great potential for further aging. The flavors in this beer should continue to develop and intensify as it matures and would be fine to visit from time to time over the next few years. For food pairings, we’re inclined to try this with roasted dry-aged meats, cured charcuterie, and salty blue veined cheeses.
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Belgian-style Quadrupel Ale w/ Spices
- ABV: 11.3%
- Serving Temperature: 50–57° F
- Suggested Glassware: Chalice, Goblet, Tulip, or Snifter Glass
- Country: United States
The original release of Partridge in a Pear Tree was intended to potentially be consumed in a full lineup of the 12 Days of Christmas beers (the final of which wasn’t released for another decade-plus!), such that we’d expect this quad to age gracefully going forward. For pairings, this should work beautifully alongside a wide variety of holiday-minded foods: spiced cake, roast turkey, cranberries and stuffing, and all sorts of poached-pear...
