This IPA from Montauk pours a somewhat hazy golden orange color, capped by a nice pillow of off-white foam that decends to a persistent collar. In the aroma, we picked up a bold cocktail of tropical fruits leading the way, backed by notes of candied citrus, prominent stone fruit impressions, and touches of woodsy pine and light melon. In the flavor, look for those tropical notes to remain front and center with noticeable pineapple character...

West Sixth’s Amber Ale presents a rich amber color in our glass, topped by a sizeable head of khaki foam. An engaging malt profile comes forth in the aroma right away, offering plenty of caramel and toasty, bready, biscuity character. The hops make their presence known as well, giving us a nice dash of lightly citric fruitiness atop the malty notes. Look for the story to continue much the same way in the flavor, too, as the malty core of this...

Montauk produces this quaffable brew as a spring through summer seasonal, as it’s designed to quench one’s thirst under the sun of Long Island’s beaches. Pouring a bright pale golden color and topped by a well-formed head of white foam, it certainly looks refreshing, so let’s dive in. On the nose, we’re greeted by pleasant aromas of mild citrus, melon, light hints of tropical flora, and touches of grassiness and herbal spice, overlaid on...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: American Pale Ale

- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or IPA Glass
- Hops: Citra, Mosaic
- Malts: 2-Row, Vienna, C-60
- Country: United States
Pouring a bright, clear copper color with plenty of off-white foam, Pennyrile Pale Ale looks great in the glass as its inviting aroma wafts outward. This 2018 World Beer Cup bronze medalist is quite fruity, with luscious hoppy notes evoking tropical fruits like mango and guava, along with touches of citrus, light pine, and floral overtones. On the palate, this brew is deliciously juicy as those hops take center stage. Look for the malts to add...
- Bottle Size: 12-oz
- Style: Cold IPA
- ABV: 6.8%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 65
- Serving Temperature: 42-47º F
- Suggested Glassware: IPA Glass or Pint Glass
- Hops: Mosaic, Citra, Centennial
- Malts: Pils, 2-Row, Flaked Rice
- Country: United States
We’ve been big fans of West Sixth’s Hop Static rotating IPA series, having previously enjoyed their Ch. 1 and Ch 3. versions. This version, Ch. 8, is brand new, and is the brewery’s first Cold IPA – a relatively new but increasingly popular IPA style variant that’s fermented at colder temperatures with lager yeast (although somewhat warmer than an IPL or other lagers), and that uses some flaked rice to lighten the malt profile. It’s a perfect...

- ABV: 7.0%
- Int’l Bittering Units (IBUs): 70

- Bottle Size: 16-oz
- Style: English Pale Ale
- ABV: 5.0%
- Serving Temperature: 47-52° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pint Glass or British Nonic
- Country: England
While we may have initially been a bit skeptical of this Monty Python-themed brew, that feeling quickly melted away after we opened it. First produced in 1999 as a collaboration between Black Sheep and Monty Python to celebrate the comedy troupe’s 30th anniversary, it has since become a very popular staple of the brewery. Pouring a medium amber color with good clarity and a lasting head of foam, this certainly looks the part of an authentic...
- Bottle Size: 330-ml
- Style: German Pilsner
- ABV: 5.0%
- Serving Temperature: 43-48° F
- Suggested Glassware: Pilsner Glass
- Country: Turkey
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Barrel Aged Golden Sour Ale Dry-Hopped w/ Nelson Sauvin
- ABV: 6.2%
- Serving Temperature: 45° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Goblet, or Pinot Glass
- Country: United States
Golden Sour + Dry Hop is drinking wonderfully, but this is sturdy enough for a little more cellaring time. The fruity, citrusy tartness, and oaky/woody structure should hold up for another 3-5 years with the Nelson Sauvin aromas fading with age. Pairing this beer with blue and gorgonzola cheeses is a great start, but we also recommend duck saltimbocca with fresh sage, prosciutto and salumi with arugula, or fresh burrata drizzled with balsamic...
- Bottle Size: 750-ml
- Style: Dark Lager aged in Pinot Noir/Whiskey Barrels
- ABV: 8%
- Serving Temperature: 48–52° F
- Suggested Glassware: Tulip, Goblet, or Chalice
- Country: United States
The Barrel Aged Standhope Doppelbock can be aged for up to five years with great care to not allow for large temperature fluctuations; however, the sweet spot is between now and three years. Enjoy this beer with roasted pork loin with tangy or fruity reduction sauce and crispy potatoes, or aged hard cheeses and charcuterie, and chocolaty desserts.
